Investor Pitches and Pumpkin Pie

Rob LynchUncategorized

Have you ever tried something new, didn’t like it, then gave it some time, revisited it, and then loved it?

I made a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. This year, I tried a new recipe. I used Buzzfeed’s Pumpkin Pie recipe from its “How To Make The Perfect Pie” page.

The recipe calls for twice as much pumpkin puree as traditional recipes, along with half and half instead of condensed milk, and uses four eggs instead of two.

I made the pumpkin pie on Wednesday night and then had a slice of it Friday night. I wasn’t impressed. I was actually disappointed.

I was expecting the pie to blow me away. I even told a friend how disappointed I was. Then I had a slice of pie on Friday night.

Completely different experience. The pie had a chance to set – the texture of the pie was firmer, less custard like. It was absolutely delicious.

Revising your investor pitch script can be like following a new Pumpkin Pie recipe. After you finish it and review it, it may not look the way you want it to. You may not initially like how it feels.

I’d invite you to give it a couple days and then revisit it. You may still want to make some tweaks. And you may also find it’s a lot better than you first thought.

You may even love it.
