My toilet wasn’t flushing again. I would push the handle and watch the bowl fill up with water and then stall out.
Three weeks prior, the line from the apartment to the sewage system was blocked. Because the symptoms looked the same, I assumed it was the same problem.
I called the property manager. She contacted the handyman.
The handyman came to my apartment and snaked the toilet, but it still wasn’t working.
He noticed the water wasn’t coming out of the rim holes. He said he would come back the following day with a snake with a camera on the end to see if there was a blockage in the line. He also said he would bring a new toilet too, just in case.
In the meantime, he made some adjustments to the tank.
That evening, the building manager left me a voicemail. She informed me a plumber was coming the next day.
The plumber walked into the bathroom, looked at the toilet, and said, “I already know what the problem is.”
There was a calcium build up over the blow hole at the bottom of the toilet, which stalled out the flushing function.
He used a small tool to clean the hole. He then flushed the toilet. Perfection.
Less than five minutes to complete the job.
Here’s the investor pitch learning lesson from my toilet.
I was so focused on what I perceived to be the issue that I convinced myself that there was a bigger problem. After a fresh set of expert eyes reviewed the situation, I realized the issue was right in front of my face and relatively easy to fix. I didn’t see it though because I wasn’t looking for it. I was operating on habit.
The same goes for your investor pitch. If you feel like you have the right content, but something isn’t quite working, there may be a block preventing you from presenting efficiently. And there may be a relatively simple fix. You just don’t see it because you’re in the thick of it.
If you want a set of expert eyes to review your pitch, let’s set up a quick call. We can talk about what’s working and what isn’t, troubleshoot potential issues, and discuss how we might work together.
Be brilliant!
